The Range Rover Evoque has been voted best car for women drivers in 2012 according to the world’s most prominent women motoring writers. Women’s World Car of the Year (WWCOTY) was set up in 2009 to create an award specific to “the fastest growing consumer segment in the world and arguably the most influential.” That’s women.
The Economist wrote a story in Jan 2009 suggesting that women make the final decision in as much as 85% of all company cars. It’s interesting that only until recently have there been car awards voted by women. The criteria for judging by a panel of 17 worldwide women motoring writers included:
- Safety
- Value-for-money
- Aesthetic appearance
- Storage space
- Child–friendliness
- Ease-of-driving
- Colour
- Sex appeal
- Environmental footprint
The winning car may not reach 0–100 km/h in less than so many seconds but is a car that appeals very strongly to women and that, in essence, is what the award is all about. So, the Range Rover Evoque best meets a woman’s desire for all the criteria above so let’s see for ourselves what all the fuss is about.
The Evoque is the smallest Range Rover ever built and the only car from Range Rover that comes with a 2-wheel drive option. Available in three door coupe and five door variants, the super cool Range Rover Evoque has won over 100 awards since its launch in September 2011. Impressive stuff and we can see what all the fuss is about! Here’s the Evoque’s grand unveiling at its 2011 launch at Kensington Palace, London with Victoria Beckham:
Here’s the cool TV advert that promoted the Range Rover Evoque clearly targeting women with its glitz and glamour:
Here’s Top Gear’s James May testing out the Evoque’s toughness by driving it through Death Valley! He then goes on to gauge its stylishness by using it to chauffeur a global megastar across Las Vegas. Well worth a watch!
Smaller and more efficient than the Range Rover Sport, the Evoque targets women, city-based drivers for the first time by Range Rover and judging by their sales, it’s a brilliant marketing call. This was helped by fashion guru Victoria Beckham (photographed above) coming on board to design three unique ‘design themes’ for the Evoque including interior trim and equipment.
The Range Rover Evoque price starts from £29,000 for entry-level five-door models. In terms of insuring the Evoque, with the recent insurance price hike for women in the news, we would recommend looking at online car insurance quotes to get the best deal.
The official presentation of the trophy to Land Rover will take place at the Paris Motor Show in September 2012. Responding to the news of this latest honour, John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director said:
“The Women’s World Car of the Year title further reflects the great market reach of Evoque. Across the world, women are a customer base in their own right, so it is vital for any manufacturer to ensure their products meet their preferences and requirements. As a vehicle designed, engineered and built in Britain, the Range Rover Evoque continues to demonstrate its world-class appeal. We are delighted that as well as the 111 honours it has received for its design, engineering and performance, it has proved just as successful in terms of excellent global sales.”
Coming Soon – Range Rover Evoque Soft-Top!

One of our favorite car blogs Pistonheads.com showcased photos of the soft-top Range Rover Evoque from the 2012 Geneva Motor Show where it was one of the stars. Surely another host of awards on the way for this beauty. The new Range Rover Evoque is definitely a beautiful car and great look for any woman.
